What rubber materials are suitable for ultra-low temperature working conditions (≤-40℃), and what design points should be noted?

Ultra-low temperature rubber strips (cold storage, liquid nitrogen equipment, alpine automotive sealing) need to avoid hardening/cracking at low temperatures, and the recommended materials are:

– -40~200℃: Special low-temperature silicone rubber (excellent low-temperature flexibility, the most commonly used);

– -40~150℃: Low-temperature formula EPDM (good wear resistance, suitable for outdoor low-temperature scenarios with friction);

– -50~120℃: TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate, easy to process for complex structures).

Structurally, it is recommended to use a soft design (40-50 Shore A), appropriately reduce the cross-section thickness to avoid excessive low-temperature compression and ensure sealing performance.
